RASUM - Manageability

Definition

The key to reducing the total cost of owning a server system is the ability to perform more duties with fewer resources. To achieve this vendors have focussed on manageability. Manageability rests on having the systems and products provide information about themselves so that the operating system and management application can improve the overall ease of use, performance and uptime.
Aspects of manageability include asset, configuration, fault, inventory, network, performance and system. To achieve this manageability has three key components:

  • Hardware instrumentation
  • Tightly integrated software components
  • Support for industry specifications and initiatives.
