Mid-Tier servers are
used by distributed applications to take advantage of their ability to be load
balanced. This results in high system availability and lower cost hardware
than for traditional monolithic applications (like corporate databases) that can
only run from one location and on expensive high end hardware.
Mid-tier applications
include:
Examples
Intel Server Platform SPSH4
With
the Intel® Server SPSH4 you can take advantage of the power of 4-way
Intel® Xeon™ processors MP, which are specifically designed to provide
the uncompromising performance required for eliminating bottlenecks in
data flow and running performance-intensive applications such as
Microsoft* Exchange 2000 groupware, storage management, and video
streaming.
