Background
Sabre (NYSE: TSG) is the leading provider of technology for the travel industry.
They provide innovative products that enable travel commerce and services,
and enhance airline/supplier operations. Sabre owns 70 percent of Travelocity.com
(Nasdaq: TVLY), the world's leading online B2C travel site; and owns GetThere, the
world's leading provider of Web-based B2B travel reservation systems. Sabre,
an S&P 500 company, is the leader in every distribution channel of the
travel industry.
Solution
With thousands of connections to their host systems, reducing the
total cost of ownership
related to their clients has become of primary concern to Sabre’s IT
chiefs. For this reason they decided to implement an organisation-wide system
uniformity program to introduce as few variants as possible to their centralised
systems management.
A part of this program was the unification of the laptops at their EMEA HQ. Naturally
when purchasing over 150 new laptops, Sabre were able to negotiate significant
discounts from their potential suppliers. Being an “off the shelf” solution the chosen
supplier would be required to add value to the order.
Ultimately the unified platform would save considerable time to the support staff,
but the time taken to initially prepare the systems with the correct combinations of
applications, operating system and network configurations was a huge task. In our
bid for the project ESP included a small fee for un-boxing, loading the appropriate
software and configuration information and shipping each unit to its final
destination. Sabre saw this added value as a unique selling point and awarded
the contract to ESP.
